Netley Abbey now has its own Women’s Institute. At a packed and enthusiastic invitation meeting in November, it was decided to hold meetings on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm.
The first has already taken place but the next two will be on Tuesdays, 27 February and 27 March in St Edward’s Church Hall, Grange Road.
Some of the ladies who came to the event wanted an afternoon meeting rather than an evening one and the feeling was that if there was enough interest, it would be quite possible to have two WIs in the village.
The new committee will be deciding what kind of activities the group would like to take part in – this could be anything from crafts to pub visits – each WI can choose its activities to suit the needs of its members.
If you would like to become a member you will be given a very warm welcome. It costs just £41 a year – that’s £3.41 a month – and in return you’ll make new friends in the village and beyond, hear some interesting speakers, have the opportunity to take part in fun and creative activities, become a member of an influential 214,000-strong national organisation and receive eight copies of the WI Life magazine each year.
