Another award for Bursledon Brickworks

This unusual museum by the River Hamble in Swanwick is going from strength to strength.

The museum was awarded silver in the Tourism South East Beautiful South Awards in the Small Visitor Attraction category. See here for details: www.beautifulsouthawards.co.uk

2017 has been a year spent consolidating everything that the Heritage Lottery Fund helped to begin back in 2013. The museum tells the history of the unique steam driven brickworks that was built in 1897 by the Ashby family well known in the area as partners in Hooper and Ashby Builders Merchants.

Visitor numbers have been rising steadily and the volunteer team goes from strength to strength.

The museum can be visited between April and October on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. A popular destination for group visits where refreshments and a guided tour are part of the offer.

Once a month all the machinery is steamed up including two of the original stationary steam engines and the old brick making machine. These special days are supported by Hampshire Narrow Gauge Railway Trust and South Hants Historic Steam and Engineering Society who run the trains and put on displays.
