Residents, businesses and commuters are invited to have their say on a proposed new cycle link on the A27 in the Bursledon area. Hampshire County Council launched the survey on 29 September for four weeks and people can take part online here.
Councillor Rob Humby, Deputy Leader of Hampshire County Council and Executive Lead Member for Economy, Transport and Environment, said: “We’re keen to hear from as many people as possible through this survey. We want to improve facilities and networks for cyclists as well as encourage more people to leave the car at home and either cycle or walk, for their local journeys.”
The proposed scheme is for the provision of a cycle lane between Windhover roundabout and Church Lane at Bursledon, approaching Lower Swanwick. It would connect to the Bursledon Road cycle link scheme which in turn links to existing cycle and pedestrian infrastructure (including Southampton City Council’s Cycle Network “SCN” route 3).
The Department for Transport awarded £57 million to the Southampton City region from the Transforming Cities Fund (TCF). This investment aims to bring about improvement to cycleways, footways and road crossings, to help more people walk and cycle locally and further afield, as well as improve bus travel and connections for different types of travel.
Cllr Humby added: “This is a significant level of transport funding that will help us provide the infrastructure to transform people’s journeys, whether they cycle, walk or travel by bus. It also supports our commitment to tackling climate change, contributing to our target to be carbon neutral by 2050 and resilient to a 2 degrees rise in temperature.”
