Christmas campaign reminds people to spend money locally

Local businesses will feature in Eastleigh Borough Council’s Christmas campaign this year in a bid to get people shopping locally this festive season. The ‘All They Want for Christmas Is You’ campaign focuses on spending money locally and supporting the high streets across the Borough.

The Council’s Welcome Back Fund has been shining a light on these local businesses throughout the year in the Borough Gems campaign which will now take centre stage for Christmas on posters and signs around the area.

Familiar faces from Chandler’s Ford, Hedge End, Botley, Hamble and Eastleigh town centre will appear including: Sea Sky Design art gallery in Hamble offering original art, jewellery and decorative objects; Artisan Meze and Wine Bar in Eastleigh’s High Street serving a selection of Meze sharing boards and wines; and Bay Leaves Larder deli and coffee shop in Chandler’s Ford that provides a cosy space to meet friends and enjoy locally sourced food and drinks.

The Welcome Back Fund has also put together a video featuring businesses including Card Gallery in Chandler’s Ford, Steam Town Brew Co in Bishopstoke Road, Katarina’s in Eastleigh town centre and Prime Time Home Entertainment in Hedge End.

Council’s Cabinet member for Economy, Derek Pretty said: “This Christmas we really want to see our high streets thriving following a tough year for some of our Borough businesses. This campaign has been a brilliant way to draw attention to some of our fantastic independent businesses and we really hope people shop locally this Christmas and show their support.”

David Mackie from Steam Town Brew Co said: “Our pub is a community hub and a place for people to come together, to catch up, to tell stories, to create new experiences and new good times. “If people can support us with that local pound, then it means that we can keep employing people locally and that’s so important. We do hope that people will keep supporting local producers and retailers.”
