D-DAY AT NETLEY COURT


6TH JUNE 2019

Free Event open to the Community. 10.30am – 4pm.

Netley Court Care Home, Victoria Road, Netley Abbey, Southampton.

Displays of WW2 items throughout the home.

Vehicles: On the day we will have a 1933 Singer car on site along with a 1941 American Willy’s Jeep.

Various items will be on display relating to the planning of D-Day, the part the local area played in D Day. Items include period maps, newspapers, military communications equipment and the ‘Home Front.

‘Home Front’ The chef will be making Woolton pie and carrot cake to sample.

Audio will be playing of BBC D-Day reporters and period music and news broadcasts. This will be playing through a period radio.

The ‘Memories of D-Day’display will include stories from residents who were actually living at the time of D-Day or who have memories of their relatives’ part in D-Day. These stories will be displayed as audio and visually.

  • Illustrated talk from Local History Groups.

  • Staff in Period Costume.

  • Live Music for part of the day.

  • The ‘Memory box’ Project
