Help wanted at the Royal Victoria Railway

It’s been very busy Easter holiday period on the railway enhanced by the superb weather over the Easter weekend itself. Lack of volunteers has been the only problem as help is needed with, amongst other things, weed killing and trimming back the gorse and undergrowth which if not dealt with will eventually impede the progress of trains. Volunteers could also help with track preparation for the long held ambition to extend the railway so it can use the Kirk terminus station opened in 2017.

The railway is open 11:00 – 16:30 at weekends, and will be open daily for the May half term (25 May - 2 June). Trains are normally pulled by one of the Class 52 locomotives (se photo) but can be steam hauled from time to time if sufficient suitable qualified volunteers are available. It is hoped to carry out some steam tests in May. Return fares are £1.75 for adults and £1.25 for children.
