Hamble Valley Winter Walks

On Sunday 17 December, there is an opportunity to escape the Christmas shopping crowds for a four mile circular walk, starting and finishing at Royal Victoria Country Park. Starting 10.30am (1030) from the car park at the rear of the chapel within the Country Park, the walk will go in to Hamble and around the Country Park itself, finishing about 1pm (1300). On the way, you will learn, from your Guide, about the Victorian hospital that once stood on the shores of Southampton Water and visit the picturesque village of Hamble, with a history that include maritime, aviation and smuggling, while enjoying, on parts of the route, views of the water. . On Sunday 7 January 2018, there will be a six mile circular walk, taking in parts of Weston, Netley and Sholing,. starting at 10.30am (1030) and finishing around 3.30pm (1530). This will include going through Westwood and on to Millers Pond, where there will be a stop for lunch. Please bring with you something to eat and drink. From Millers Pond, the route back to Weston Shore Car Park will be via Shoreburs Greenway. Learn, on the way, about Netley Abbey, air raids and 'Spike Island'. On Sunday, 21 January 2018, there will be a 3 mile walk based on South Stoneham and Mansbridge. This will begin at 10.30am (1030), starting from Swaythling Railway Station Car Park and finishing, back there, about 1pm (1300). This walk will be include paths of the River Itchen and Greenways. On the walk there will be opportunity to learn about the history of the Itchen Navigation, South Stoneham Church and Woodmill.

The charge per adult per walk is £2. No unaccompanied children but accompanied children under the age of 16 are free. Please wear/bring appropriate clothing bearing in mind that the weather can change during the course of a walk. Strong footwear is recommended. In the event of adverse weather, for health or safety reasons or other circumstances beyond our control, some walks may be cancelled at short notice.
