Chapel Sessions 2017

The first Chapel Sessions of the year is on Fri. 10th February (and the band who played the last Session, prior to refurbishment, in our inspirational home The Chapel, Royal Victoria Country Park) will be THE BURNS UNIT bringing us their inimitable blues/rock at a pre-Valentine’s day bash.

We have departed with tradition for this one and are holding it in St. Edwards Church Hall, Grange Rd, Netley. Real Ale, Wine and Real Coffee bar within the Hall and Caberet Style table seating with free snacks will help to get the “Party” swinging as we replace those February blues with Burns Unit’s “Blues". Tickets £10 in advance from www.hants.gov.uk/shop or why not ‘phone us on 07702 980677 for a special offer TABLE OF 6 FOR £50. We have a reduced capacity in the Hall over the Church so get your tickets early for this one. The rest of the Sessions are back to using St. Edwards Church for the concerts with the bar in the Hall.

Next up on Fri. 24th March making a long overdue return to Chapel Sessions (last played in the Chapel over 2 years ago) is talented singer/songwriter DAISY CHAPMAN. Daisy has been very busy since we last saw her and we are indeed fortunate to secure a return visit. For those of you who didn’t know, Daisy was commissioned by the BBC to write a song based on letters received from France in WW1. Click here to go to the BBC site with a video of Daisy performing this poignant love song with Sue who we hope will join her at Chapel Sessions.

Next one Sat. 6th May - sorry we haven’t a Session in April (as yet?) but this one is certainly worth waiting for, a double headline Session featuring RAY COOPER & STEVE SKAITH new to Chapel Sessions but with musical pedigrees making us wonder how we managed to get both of them together! Ray Cooper is a former member of the highly acclaimed Oysterband who you may have seen playing to sellout crowds in Festivals in the UK. Now based in Sweden, we’ve been trying to tie him down to a Chapel Session Gig for ages.

Not content with one legend we have also got Steve Skaith on the bill doing a solo spot away from his megaband (Latin Quarter).

Also in May on Sat. 27th we are thrilled to have persuaded a firm Chapel Sessions Favourite with a recently found Sessions friend to return once more. JENN BOSTIC with SARAH DARLING plus (new to Chapel Sessions) MICHAEL LOGEN are teaming up to give us another taste of Nashville in the inimitable style of the famous Bluebird Cafe. Those of you who came to Jenn, Sarah and Kyshona last year will know what a superb night we have in store for us again.

Now to Wed. June 7th when we have a long awaited return of one of the early Chapel Session artist first supporting, then sharing the bill now EMMA STEVENS the amazingly talented singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is returning with her band to headline in her own right!

If you haven’t seen and heard Emma yet you will be blown away by her unique style of playing and singing.

Wed June 21st brings our first half of the Chapel Sessions year to a close on the longest day (a challenge for Glenn on the lights then!) with CARA a multi award winning Scottish/German band playing Irish and Celtic Music!!! I can personally recommend this very sought after band with a great blend of singing harmonies and fantastic instrumentals from keyboard, fiddle, uilleann pipes, guitar & a virtuoso bodhran player (my teacher!)

That’s it for the first half of 2017 (more than we had in the whole of 2016). We have one special act up our sleeve for the beginning of September - all we’ll say for now is Tuscan Strings!?

Thanks for your continued support.
