Tesco Bags of Help

Local people are being urged to get ready to cast their vote in the Tesco 'Bags of Help' initiative to create superb new trails around Lakeside Country Park, and major improvements to Coronation Parade in Hamble.

Grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – are being awarded to environmental and greenspace projects across the country and, from 31 October, shoppers can head to local Tesco stores to vote for who they think should take away the top grants.

The aim of the Council’s bid for Lakeside Country Park is to bring together local people to design activity trails to improve access, encourage heathier, active lifestyles and raise awareness of the park's ecology.

If the Coronation Parade bid is successful the funds will augment plans to resurface the area in front of the shops, redesign the steps to include tree planting and improve paving and parking. The aim is to give more prominence to the Parade, which serves as a gateway to Hamble village.

Voting is open in stores until November 13. Customers will cast their vote using a token given to them at the check-out in store each time they shop. You can vote for Lakeside Country Park at: Tesco Express, Ashdown Road, Chandlers Ford; Tesco Express, Winchester Road, Fair Oak; Tesco Express, Twyford Road, Eastleigh; Tesco Express, Bishopstoke Road; Eastleigh; Tesco Metro, Swan Centre, Eastleigh; Tesco Express, Valley Park . Votes for Coronation Parade can be cast at Tesco Extra, Hamble Lane, Bursledon.
