With the festivities over for another year it’s time to think about new hobbies, interests and social occasions. What better than world renowned music of all genres on our doorstep. After the first Chapel Sessions concert back at the Royal Victoria Chapel, celebrating a Welsh Celtic Christmas with Calan, who played to a full house in the presence of deputy Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire Andrew Kent, we are excited to bring a wide variety of music to the Chapel and St Edward’s Church during 2018.
At the Royal Victoria Chapel, 10 February, from Prince Edward Island, Canada we welcome French Canadian Acadian Trio VISHTEN who wowed Wickham Festival last summer. A multi-instrumental trio, Vishtèn are flag bearers for their unique Acadian musical tradition. Twin sisters Emmanuelle and Pastelle LeBlanc, from Prince Edward Island, join forces with Pascal Miousse – a direct descendant of the first colonial families to inhabit Quebec’s remote Magdalene Islands – in a live show that combines song-writing elegance with the dynamism of three experienced and truly passionate performers. Tight sibling harmonies, layered foot percussion and a compelling trademark blend of fiddle, guitar, accordion, whistles, piano, bodhrán and jaw harp create an expansive sound that triumphantly defies the parameters of a trio. On 15 March, a touch of Irish Music again echoes through St Edward’s Church, Netley for a pre St Patrick’s Day repeat of last year’s successful ‘Flying Toads and Irish Stew concert’ - a joint fundraiser for St Edward’s Church with delicious Irish Stew (& other options available).
